Shawsheen River Watershed Association
Since 1997, the Shawsheen River Watershed Association (SRWA) has been doing clean-ups large and small, increasing public access to the river, and inspiring people to get outside and enjoy the Shawsheen via paddles and walks!
What’s new with SRWA?
1) A brand new interactive map shows put-in areas and hiking trailheads accessible from the river. This allows people to plan a paddle and include a hike or picnic to complete their adventure.
2) SRWA is adding new boat launch sites! This year they opened a boat launch in Costello Park in Lawrence, giving residents river access and enjoyment right in their own back yards. The SRWA is in the development stages with Billerica Conservation Commission to establish a brand-new boat launch called Lapham Landing – stay tuned.
3) The Shawsheen River offers many beautiful sections where one can enjoy the aquatic flora and fauna along with some unique features like the Middlesex Canal aqueduct, dating back to 1803.The canal literally went over the river about 30 feet above it. There are many bridges, some historic features and hiking trails that allow you to enjoy the 26.8 miles through seven communities.
