Beautiful day on the Ipswich – 8.5 miles from Salem Bridge to the take out at Foote Bros. My paddling adventure partner Alice and I spent over four hours exploring the river, “wrong ways” of deceitful meanders, a short portion of the Wenham Canal, and numerous little innundated inlets. Highlights were the six swans that let us flow by them without rancor and a swim in the tannin-tinted water at the Horse Bridge. Sadly, we did not see any leeches, giant snappers, or large black water snakes that we had been warned about. Perfect day! … Laurie
Foote Brothers’ portaged us to the Topsfield put- in where we began our journey to their canoe and kayak rental site in Ipswich. We used our own kayaks… Alice
